Rolf Gardiner (1902- 1971) was an acquaintance that Mary neal made late in her life. He visited her in Littlehampton, and we believe urged Mary to take up 'the cause' again - but she felt it was not her position at that point and she was very involved in the juvenile courts and emerging probationary service. She writes about their meetin in her autobiography and Roy Judge also gives an account of their relationship. Rolf and Mary met when she was about 80.
Rolf went off to stir up some trouble and was a controversial figure, so it's a good job she didnt go overboard to encourage him. His son is John Elliott Gardiner the composer, and he continues the work at Springhead, an organic farm.
