I undertook to organise the ceremony and the guests, no easy thing when the guests came from so many different spheres of life, from the workhouse and from Parliament, from the poorest houses and from the richest.

…….Friends used to say to me in those days: “You must be very sad at losing your sister,” but I always told them and I felt that I had not so much lost a sister as gained a brother!
