The Goupil Gallery Conference held in Dover Street was intended to be a gathering to take stock of the national movement. The result originally of a collaboration between Mary Neal and Cecil Sharp, Sharp was reluctant to attend at the last minute although he did come along. Mary Neal put his lack of collaboration down to an article that had appeared in Punch the day before.

These notes show how interchangeable their views are. Mary Neal advocates keeping the dance form accurate, Sharp that it be a broad public movement. The conference is chaired by Neville Lytton, brother of Lady Constance Lytton.
