Sadlers Wells Theatre
The Research Day explored the resonance of Mary Neal’s archive and the story of Mary and the Espérance Club by asking:

  1. How are English indigenous song and dance traditions inherited, and to whom do they now belong?
  2. How do these traditions connect to a continuum of participatory arts practice today?

The day focussed on singing, dancing, playing music, teaching, researching, archiving, making, learning and conversing. Each participant had something distinct to give and gain and the day set out to explore the possibility for this exchange. The day provided a successful provocation which was carried into onward projects such as The Mary Neal Day on Feb 7th.  You can read individual feedback from some of the artists by clicking on names listed to the right.
